मर्द का दर्द...
I remember a dialogue from one Hindi movie, "Mard ko dard nahi hota". Whenever I hear this sentence, the very first question comes to my mind is, does a dialogue writer want to convey that Men are not human beings. He definitely wants to consider men either superhuman or a stone? Whatever it is? But is it right? After contemplating a lot I got an answer that 'it's not right'. Simply beacuse by stating this we are taking away men's right to be human, to be sensitive, to be emotional. Isn't it?
I guess some advertisement used to come on television where a mother asks her crying son," Are you a girl to cry like this? ". Whatever would be the situation,is making such statement a sensitive enough? I find it very inhuman, insensitive and discriminating statement.
What such 'THINKERS' (So called) want to convey? They definitely want to portray that a man is NATURALLY strong and so he shouldn't cry. Such people are imbibing in men that being a man they shouldn't cry, they should hold back their feelings(the only feeling they can express is an anger). These people are not aware of the fact that by making such statements they are preventing men from expressing their true emotions frankly and thus making them more vulnerable to many physical and psychological diseases. What kind of strength these people want to prove at the cost of well-being of men? I just don't understand.
This is nothing but one of the bad outcomes of Patriarchy. Men have been equally suffering from this MAN-made Patriarchy. But they are simply ignoring this.
Being a man you can't be soft. Being a man you can't cry. Being a man you can't stay at home for your entire life. You are expected to win a bread and if you stay at home while your wife is at work, you are looked down upon. Being a man you can't try out different outfits like women. Being a man you cant spend more time with your kids as Stay-at-home-dads are generally perceived as weak. Being a man you should be sexually aggressive enough, otherwise you are not manly enough. Being a man you should be always emotionally strong, you can't have any emotional issue otherwise you are not a strong man. This mentality has created many physiological and psychological issues in men. Moreover being a man you cant be a victim of abuse(specially emotional and sexual) What a terrific situation!
But thankfully nowadays you can find some SNAGs (Sensitive New Age Guys) around you. They give me a hopeful feeling about entire mankind. Thanks to the era of 'soft-skills training'. I know situation is getting better but it's still not completely fine.
I hope coming days will give us more SNAGs, for the welfare of 'MAN'kind.
With this strong hope, I wish you all a very Happy Men's Day.
